Importance of Selecting a Right Conversion Objective in Google Ads

Can you Imagine that selecting the wrong conversions in Google ads costs you thousands of dollars?

One client contacted me and asked for a consultation.

The Problem:

He was getting conversions in CRM from Google ads, but Google Ads Manager didn’t track any conversions. He spent $2,200+ but no conversions from the ads manager.

His conversions were set up properly on the website. I checked all through Tag Assistant Legacy Extension.

Then I checked his campaign setup and Zapier settings.

All those were set up properly and I was not getting any clue.

Then while auditing of campaign goals, I found the error.

What was that? Any guess?

He used to use lead objectives for Facebook ads and used the same objective here as the Submit Lead Form.

But…

His conversion for leads in Google Ads Manager was selected as “Sign Up” when he or his ads manager created those conversions.

I showed him that Google ads are working but his campaign objective was wrong and that’s why Google ads manager was not reporting those sign-ups. So in the next month (after fixing the issue), he got 48 conversions from his campaigns.

So here is the wrap-up.

Google Ads Manager tracking does not work like Facebook ads it will track all conversion objectives. It will only be tracking the conversions that we select as conversion goals. So if your conversion goal is “Sign Up” for getting leads on the website, then you should need to use “Sign Up” as a conversion goal while setting up the campaign.
